While it is cheese-steak day today, I am sad to announce I do not have a good recipe nor the ingredients to attempt to make a cheese-steak – insert super sad face here. But as we gear up for lunch, I will share my pizza dough recipe for you! It is super easy, doesn’t take a ton of time to make (just need to let it rise) and it is delicious. The only problem is once you make it, everyone will be requesting it – for example – I made over 50 personal pan pizzas one night for my Girl Guide Unit……..give yourself longer than 2 hours, if you attempt this!
Pizza Dough
1 cups warm water – think the temperature you would use to bathe a baby, anything hotter and you’ll kill the yeast, and all dreams of having a good pizza
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons oil – I use canola oil
I use my stand mixer for everything, as much as I love cooking and baking, I am slightly lazy at times. Mix the water, yeast and sugar together and let sit for about 10 minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients to your mixer and slap on the dough hook and let it go. You want the dough to be soft and slightly sticky then you are ready to pop it in a warm place to let it rise. I usually let mine rise for an hour, then the fun begins. Make sure the area you are stretching the dough on is well floured and your pans are well greased otherwise it will stick, you have been warned. I normally set my oven to 435(ish), this is where I am horrible and don’t write things down. I par-bake my pizza dough before I on any ingredients on, and great trick – they also freeze well if you par-bake! I par-bake for 7 minutes, then add the toppings and bake another 10 minutes then finish off with broiling for 2-3 minutes. The next step is to patiently wait for it to cool slightly so you can enjoy it!
*Normally I would post a picture of my kitchen creations, but I forgot and my household ate all the pizza, so instead here’s an old picture of one of my pizzas and a calzone. I assure you my skills have improved immensely since this was taken in 2012*
