It’s a new month, and that means some cool new stuff on Netflix! Here’s a short list of just SOME of the fresh stuff to check out…
Unsolved Mysteries (July 1st)
Talk about a blast from the past! The 1987 NBC series hosted by the late Robert Stack is revived, albeit with some changes. While the original show stacked up a number of real-life tales about everything from UFO’s to vanished individuals each time out, the reboot focuses on one case per episode. Still…..very, very cool!
Under the Riccione Sun (July 1st)
An Italian summer treat, this film centers on a group of fun-loving teens, who nurse each other’s heartaches. Think of it as the Italian vacation you won’t get to go on this year.
The Baby-Sitters Club (July 3rd)
Yet another retro trip to the 80’s, this new series is based on Ann M. Martin’s novel series about a group of teen girls who gain a plethora of life lessons by forming a baby-sitting business. There have been both TV and movie adaptations before, none enjoying much success….but with producer Rachel Shukert (‘Glow’) convinced there’s an audience for this given the massive popularity of the books, Netflix is giving it another go.
Offering to the Storm (Ofrenda a la Tormenta) (July 24th)
A Spanish suspense, this is the third and final film in the Baztan trilogy, based on the novels by Dolores Redondo. In it, Inspector Salazar confronts the origin of her nightmares, unfolding some deep secrets of the Baztan valley. If you don’t mind subtitles with your thrills n’ chills, it’s a gooder.
Last Chance U: Laney (July 28th)
One of the biggest success stories for Netflix’s documentary department has been this series about junior college football, each season following a year in the life of the players, coaches, and the communities that cheer for them. This season takes place at Laney College in Oakland, California, as the Laney Eagles attempt to to defend their 2018 title. This is expected to be ‘Last Chance U’s final season on the gridiron, with future episodes shifting focus to basketball.
