It feels like it’s been forever since we were able to go see a movie at the incredible Capitol Theatres in North Battleford. I have a soft spot in my heart for going to the theatre. Partly because a million years ago when I was a kid I worked at the candy counter. It was a great job! I got to see a ton of movies, meet a lot of cool people, and not to mention my Boss Sophie Trach was the best.
Watching the transformation of the theatre over the last few years and the grand opening of the new Capitol Annex was like a dream come true! When the Pandemic closed things up, like a lot of people, I was concerned for our local businesses. The theatre was quick to look for ways to stay afloat and to also reach out to help other small businesses. With weekly popcorn sales and Vendor Alley they have done a lot of good.
When the province announced the re-opening of theatres it was bitter sweet. After chatting with the manager, Ursula Swindler, we found out that the Film Studios decided to shelve major releases until some time in August. Oy! Can’t get a break eh?
Well you can’t keep a good fighter down, so the theatre came up swingin’! They have partnered with Businesses and Charities in the Battlefords to offer showings of some classic films and new favorites. Awesome.
I can’t wait to go see SlapShot on the big screen!
