With the world changing around us and everyone doing everything they can to learn and adapt there is one theme that rings true – It’s Busy. When things are busy it’s easy to miss out on a lot of stuff. I miss out on visiting with friends and connecting with family, I miss out on binge-ing my favorite series, I miss out on having time to myself.
I don’t think I’m alone when I say this can really knocks me down. I am so lucky to have some really smart people who care about me that notice when life is stacking up. I wanted to share with you some things I’ve learned so that when life kicks it into high gear you don’t get left in the dust.
#1 Make A List – It’s amazing how simple this is to do and how much it helps. Part of what makes me feel like I’m getting crushed is constantly thinking of the stuff that’s coming at me. Once I get that out of my head and on to paper I can focus on one thing at a time.
#2 Get Moving – A little bit of exercise goes a long way. If you feel like you need a boost, going for a little run or even doing some jumping jacks can help re-boot your system. As we sit at a desk or in front of a computer screen all of our energy is going to our brain, shake it up and send some energy to the rest of your body and you’ll be amazed at how much better your brain will operate when you sit back down.
#3 Ignore the Clock – I always fall into the trap of “time stressing”. This is where I expect to be further along on my list of stuff based on how much time I’ve spent. I like to be efficient but sometimes good, honest, hard work takes time. When I stop looking at the clock I look closer at what I’m doing and low and behold I make it through the list regardless of where the big and little hands fall.
I hope life can even out for all of us soon and we can get back to family, friends, and the next season of Brooklyn 99.
It’s amazing what giving yourself a break can do, take some time in your work day to step outside and take a few deep breaths. No matter how cloudy life can seem, behind those clouds, the bluest sky is still right above you.
You got this!
-Nic
