Being born and raised in North Battleford I’ve been lucky enough to meet and make friends with a lot of pretty incredible people. Some of those people have moved on to places across the country, others have remained here to live life on the prairie embracing exactly why we call our community North Beautiful!
You might be thinking that I have met all these people because of work, but you’d be wrong. I’ve met so many people in my life because of Hockey. I know so many families that can relate the same story. Some of the best friends I’ve had were players that came from different communities across Saskatchewan to play hockey… And the crazy part is I never ever played (except once against the Roughriders, but that’s a different story)!
Hockey is a sport, a game, that’s true. But it’s because of the love for that game that young people, boys and girls, get to learn about team work, friendship, and what it means to be a part of a community.
In March when the whole world went on hold, skates got hung up, and hockey bags got dumped out in the garage to air out… that was it for the season.
Until now!
Hockey is back in the Battlefords with the return of the North Stars Hockey Camp. It’s easy to tell how happy the players are to be hitting the ice again. It’s also easy to tell how much families, coaches, and everyone else who loves this game has missed it. With a flooded Facebook Feed it’s hard to miss the pictures of smiling kids geared up and ready, parent’s pics from the stands and even News stories like this one from BattlefordsNOW.com.
It feels really good to say it… Welcome back to the RINK!
