We are social creatures. There is no question that humans are meant to be together, families, friends, and even strangers are drawn to each other. Whether we know it or not, social connection is built into us on a basic level. That in mind I have to say a huge thanks and congratulations to the NB Public Library.
As much as reading is a pretty much a solo activity they have been looking to offer more. They re-opened their doors back in September and have seen a steady increase in patrons. They are, of course, following all protocols but they have been inspirational in their quest to bring social connection to the community. Online story time for kids, quiz nights that exercise your brain, live streamed talks from Authors. They keep a steady stream of events happening and people are eating it up!
Maybe you’ve always looked at the library and thought, “that’s not for me”, well don’t knock it ’til you try it. It might not be a night out at the club, or a screaming crowd at a Riders game but these events may just satisfy your primordial urge to connect on a social level. And who knows, maybe you’ll even pick up a book or two to pass the winter.
