The Ridge Wellness Centre is reminding people it is still open for anyone wishing to self-isolate for COVID-19.
Located south of Battleford, off Old Highway No. 4, the facility first opened in May of 2021 to help people dealing with the virus who need a secure and safe place to stay.
Grant Beaudry, CEO for the Mosquito, Grizzly Bear’s Head, Lean Man (MGBHLM) First Nation Economic Development Corp., oversees operations for The Wellness Centre, a non-profit site.
“I just want the word out there that we’re still open and we’re still operating as a COVID-19 isolation centre,” he said. “Anyone can come and isolate for Covid. The maximum stay is five days now.”
Beaudry said they received some calls from people thinking the facility might be closed. But that is not the case.
“We received our funding from ISC [Indigenous Services Canada] and we’ll have the doors open and will be taking referrals from health agencies.”
The Wellness Centre has a total of 19 rooms, 16 of which are for COVID isolation while the remaining three are dedicated to those impacted by domestic violence.
Beaudry mentioned there is a new variant of Covid that is being reported in international news now, so the pandemic is not over and people need to continue to be cautious.
He mentioned The Wellness Centre bedrooms offer everything a person who is self-isolating would need, including a quiet place to rest, a temperature-controlled suite, a private bathroom, meals and Internet access for a comfortable stay.
The Wellness Centre manager Cheryl Starr said it is good to see the facility has been approved for another year as a Covid isolation centre to serve the community’s needs.
