The best thing about the weather warming up is that you can go play outside without freezing your phalanges off (Look that one up!). This weekend the kids and I decided to build a snow fort. Not just any snow fort. The ULTIMATE snow fort. It’s called a Quinzhee.
You start by shoveling all the snow off of a circle on the ground, about 10 foot diameter is a nice size. Then you shovel ALL the snow back onto it. Heap it up as high as you can. As you toss it on the snow will pack itself and so when you’re satisfied with your giant pile of snow, you get down on your hands and knees and start hollowing it out on the inside, digging out all the snow as you go! Once you’ve moved all the snow a grand total of three times your snow fort will look like this on the outside!
Now, like I said, this was intended to be the ULTIMATE snow fort, so on the outside it looked like that. On the inside it looks like this!
It’s not quite finished yet, but I’m pretty certain this is what my kids have in mind! Drop me a comment on Facebook and tell me about the best snow fort you ever built! -Nic
