If you are a baseball fan, then you may have had today marked off on your calendar. Today was supposed to be Opening Day for Major League baseball. A cool thing the MLB is doing today is holding #OpeningDayAtHome where they are broadcasting multiple games from years past over multiple platforms on television and online.
Here’s the tweet from Major League Baseball.

Now, if you don’t want to sit around and wait for these games, someone on Reddit posted a few years ago how to watch any MLB game on You Tube. It looks like all games have been posted on MLB’s You Tube Channel from 2009 through 2018.
The only issue is you’ll have to know some specific details. Visiting team, home team and date. So, some research is needed.
In order to find a game, your search has to be in the following format:
- XXX AT YYY – Month DD, YYYY
Where:
- XXX is the official 3-letter code for the visiting team
- YYY is the official 3-letter code for the home team
- Month is the month
- DD is the two-digit day/date
- YYYY is the full year
- The “XXX AT YYY” part is in uppercase
- The month is in title case
So, for example, if you want to want to relive the ‘bat flip heard around the world’ game in it’s entirety, simply go to you tube and type in: tex at tor – October 14, 2015 which will take you to their You Tube page.
There are a few other things you’ll have to pay attention to, like if you’re searching for a team in Chicago or New York where two teams play, they are coded to which league they are in, American League or National League. Chicago, for example, the White Sox code is CHA and the Cubs are CHN. Or cities with two names are the initials and the league they are in. San Diego’s code is SDN. Here is the full Reddit post explain it all.
