Hikers came across a ‘blood’ red flowing creek in Mississauga, Canada on Tuesday. The hikers took a video and posted it to Twitter asking the question as to why Etobicoke Creek is running red.

With the appearance of the red river just two weeks before the Passover holiday, other tweeters were quick to express the correlation between the bright red water and the biblical story of the ten plagues.

The red colour of the creek is the result of approximately 400 litres of ink that spilled into the waterway. Peel Public Works said in a tweet that the ink came from a company in North Mississauga and the accident occurred at a factory.
The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks staff have checked the creek and found no dead fish or wildlife. Cleanup is underway.
