The Aisle Seat: Home Edition previews a rather major release for Netflix this Friday (April 24th), the action vehicle ‘Extraction’ starring Chris Hemsworth.
Even though we can’t take in a big screen movie right now, there’s a theatrical-sized adrenaline rush arriving in your living room this weekend.
Probably the heftiest blockbuster release since the COVID-19 pandemic began a little over a month ago, ‘Extraction’ reunites star Chris Hemsworth with ‘Avengers’ directors Joe and Anthony Russo, producers for this film, with Joe writing the script. Oh, and the director of ‘Extraction’?…a guy by the name of Sam Hargrave who, in addition to acting as second-unit director on the ‘Avengers’ series, doubled as a stuntman for Chris Evans. Yup, the guy ran around in the Captain America suit. So if you’re thinking with not only Thor himself but a handful of superhero specialists behind the camera that you’re in for something big with ‘Extraction’……I think you’re right.
Hemsworth plays Tyler Rake, a mercenary haunted by ghosts from the past, enlisted to extract Ovi (Rudhraksh Jaiswal), the teenage son of a jailed drug lord, who has been abducted by a rival boss and taken to Bangladesh. From what I can muster from the trailer, Rake kills a lot of bad guys…..like, a LOT of bad guys….and inevitably bonds with the kid along the way.
Netflix hasn’t served up a ton of action fare with their original film offerings, though the last big one….the Ryan Reynolds-Michael Bay flick, ‘6 Underground’….proved that, when it comes to guns, fast cars n’ fireworks, they mean business. The star power and budget is certainly in place for this to have motion picture ‘event’ status – so best get the popcorn ready, and enjoy!
