Hockey is to Saskatchewan like Peach Pie is to Alabama. Hockey is different this year but thank goodness the game goes on! The people that run Minor Hockey in the our area have been working very hard to make sure of that. Our own Battlefords North Stars are still working with the SJHL to lay out what this season will be.
A big challenge that faces all teams is fundraising. A big part of fundraising for lots of those young teams comes from the kitchen. Thanks to 2020 many kitchens in little hometown rinks across Saskatchewan might remain dark this season.
We already know that going to the rink to watch the teams play isn’t what it used to be, but now to also consider that the Iconic Staple of Saskatchewan winter diet is taking a hit really has me shaking. The Rink Burger i would guess makes up at least 30% of all the calories consumed in any hockey rink. Think of the breakaways, the big body checks, and the battles in the corner that have been fueled by those incredible stacks of meaty deliciousness.
I choose to hold on to hope! Yes this year might keep us all from stuffing our faces with what can be describes as hockey-family-rocket-fuel, but I will cling to the belief that we will rise again! Our teams will pack the rink once again. Our kids will laugh, smile, and stay up way to late at the next tournament. And our bellies will rumble with contented joy as we sink our teeth into a magical mouth watering combination of Bun Meat Bun!
Long Live the RINK BURGER!!!
