Remembrance Day is November 11th. This is the day that the whole world needs to stop and take a moment to think about what freedom cost. Take a moment to look around you and realize that everything we see, hear, and do, came at the sacrifice of someone that thought you deserved it. That person may have been from your family, or they may have been a total stranger. It didn’t matter to them, they didn’t need to know you, or even know that you would exist some day, they did it for you and not themselves. Many of those people that fought for our freedom fell and never had the luxury of enjoying what they fought for. They left that up to you and me.
2020 has put the kaibosh on too many things. The Pandemic closed businesses, stopped travel, pulled the rug out from under live entertainment, and more. Slowly we have been lucky enough to see the return of “normal” things – in a new way.
No matter the regulations or recommendations, 2020 cannot stop Remembrance Day.
We don’t need to be together to think of the price paid for our freedom. As much as the gesture means a lot, we don’t need to stand shoulder to shoulder in front of the Cenotaph. Remembrance Day can be observed in your kitchen, your truck, your back yard, around the breakfast table, anywhere. Our friends at the Royal Canadian Legion in North Battleford and in Meadow Lake will be conducting services again this year and our sister stations CJNB and CJNS will be airing them live. A simple way to stop and connect with the rest of the country as we Remember.
November 11th is coming, put on your Poppy, and put a reminder in your phone, take the time to cherish your freedom and remember the cost.
