I’ve been seeing a lot of my friends making an adjustment to the classic New Year’s Resolution. Rather than making a specific goal they have decided to make it a little more general, but in my opinion just as effective.
Some people say they are going to join a gym – AND GO! Others may set a goal weight for the year or perhaps they resolve to use the fancy treadmill or bowflex that’s been helping dry laundry for the past few years. In this new approach rather than pinpointing what you want to do you choose a word to represent your goal. In this case it may be as simple as focusing on “Active”.
In the realm of trying to spruce up your home or finally get to the last few boxes from your move last summer, focus on the word “Done”. You can focus on just getting it DONE (that’s a good one for me).
Relationships often come into scope for New Year’s Resolutions and that one can be the toughest – “Find Love” or “Settle Down” might be a familiar phrase in this category. Rather than going on the hunt how about focus on attracting? Focus on the word that describes the quality that you find most attractive in others – “Kindness” or “Compassion”.
I want to challenge you to add one more word to focus on – “Service” – with a heart that is ready to serve it’s amazing the good you can bring to yourself, your family, or even your community!
Whatever your New Year’s Goal may be I wish you luck with it, and remember to always celebrate the small victories along the way.
Happy New Year!
-Nic
