For me it was “Nightmare on Elm Street”. The original Freddy Kruger movie. It was so scary… especially for a kid that was 6 years old.
It was a night that will live in my memory forever. We were visiting friends and the parents had sent the kids to the basement to watch a movie. Being the youngest out of the Gaggle of Children my requests for something like the “Secret of Nihm” were over-ruled. When Freddy was suggested I said it would be too scary but I was assured that they would tell me to cover my eyes whenever something bad would happen.
That was a lie. Kids are cruel.
I slept with the light on until I was 13.
The best part of this whole experience was that I realized that I would never watch a scary movie again. That’s a win.
