How close have you ever been to a bolt of lightning?
If you enjoy thunderstorms, you might have seen yourself standing outside or in your window or doorway during a storm. Well, you shouldn’t be near these spots during a thunderstorm! It’s Lightening Safety Week. So let’s raise some awareness to this electrical issue,
Less than one chance in a million you will be struck by lightning in a given year. Strikes hit the ground about 40 million times a year. Indeed, a lightning strike can be fatal, though you can live to tell the tale. More Canadians are killed by lightning than by hail, wind, rain, and tornadoes combined! While the odds of getting struck by lightning are less than one in a million, Environment Canada (2021) says lightning kills 2 to 3 people every year in this country and injures another 80 people.
Yet some of us are fascinated by thunderstorms. That includes me! Ya so that advice I gave earlier about not being near windows or doors? Yeah, that’s totally me.
