Oy! This past weekend was a doozy. Let me start by saying thanks to my incredible family who have taught me throughout my life to look for the bright side. It can be tough, especially when it seems to be raining (blank) down on you from a dizzying height.
Thank goodness for silver linings.
Friday was the first event that knocked normal life off it’s tracks. My daughter ran downstairs to grab something from ‘the store’ and on her way through the basement discovered that there was water soaking through the carpet. Not sure what it was she came to tell me and guessed that it might have something to do with our water softener… she was wrong, it was the coming from the floor drain, and not it wasn’t nice soft water, it was sewage. Nasty times 10. Our sewer pump died and I had no idea, so the tank had been filling for a few WEEKS and now it was TOO full and was backing up into the basement. GREY CAT HELP!!! Thank goodness for good people who know stuff. Meno talked me through some trouble shooting and made a special trip the next morning to save the day. Replaced the pump, sucked out the tank, and we’re all set! The only thing left to do is haul all of the, ahem, “affected stuff” out of the basement. A big job. But not as big as it could have been! SILVE LINING #1: If my daughter hadn’t gone downstairs who knows how much more of a mess we would have seen. Ever flush, the dishwasher, showers, everything would have been in the basement!
Due to this mess we had to cancel a big family/friends gathering we had planned for Sunday to celebrate 3 Birthdays in our family. Dang. But at least we could still go to the Svoboda Dancers MALANKA!! If you’ve never been to Malanka I hope, someday, you get to go. It’s a WILD party! My Daughter is one if the dancers and she loves it! Thanks to the state of the world the last few years she has never had the pleasure of dancing at Malanka. We pre-bought our tickets, invited some special guests, and we were set. Until my little girlie came down with some sort of sickness. Well dang. So she misses out on the fun, again. I still took our guests and other kids to the party, stepped in to do my part for the volunteer shift I signed up for, and things were still a pretty good time. That is until my wife called to say that things were not improving and that she figured we might need to head to the ER. So after the party we get home and it is obvious we should take her in. Off we go at about 11:45pm. Well we got out of the ER at 5:20am. Yup it was a wait, but what can you do!? SILVER LINING #2: Thank goodness for the kind and caring staff at the BUH. I could never do what you do and I appreciate the fact we have an ER a few minutes away, even if it takes time, we received great care and I’m happy to say my Daughter will be A-Okay!
Monday arrived! First time in a long time I was so happy for a Monday. Thank goodness that weekend is over. Oh Wait, my phone rings at about 6:30am, my beautiful wife Megan has discovered that our furnace has quit. As soon as I could I rush home and try to trouble shoot it and get it going again. No Luck. Will from River City made the trip out to check things out and it doesn’t look good. SILVER LINING #3: It’s January, traditionally “the Dead of Winter”, and it’s only -8. I can only imagine how much worse this would be if it had been a normal SK January with temps down below -35.
They say it comes in 3’s. So, we’re done, right? Gosh I hope we’re done.
Let me say it again, Thank Goodness for Silver Linings!
Have you had to look for a silver lining recently?
-Nic
