In a night of intense firefighting, the North Battleford fire department, aided by the Town of Battleford and the RM of North Battleford fire departments, tackled a fully-engulfed fire at Quickfalls Collision Centre on 832-104 Street.
Swift Action in the Face of Adversity
Deputy Fire Chief Paul Perry praised the rapid response of his team after receiving the call at 5:31 p.m. Thursday. Despite their efforts, the auto body shop sustained significant damage, with only the frontage left standing.
“No injuries were reported, and mutual aid from the Town of Battleford and the RM of North Battleford was crucial in our suppression efforts,” Perry noted. The focus was on saving surrounding structures, successfully safeguarding the adjacent News Optimist.
Heroes on the Frontline
Two individuals inside the building at the time of the fire escaped unharmed, and Deputy Chief Perry expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts of his team and fellow firefighters.
Firefighters battled through the night, gaining control around 3 a.m. However, the structural damage, compounded by the flammable materials in the auto-body repair shop, made entering the building unsafe.
Ongoing Investigation
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and Deputy Chief Perry highlighted the challenges posed by the shop’s flammable inventory, including gasoline, oil, and paint.
In the face of adversity, North Battleford’s firefighters demonstrated resilience and collaboration. The community stands united in gratitude for their swift response, preventing further devastation as the investigation continues.
